a(1) = 218 because in 1920 the record was shared between Rogers Hornsby (age 24), hitting right-handed and Joe Jackson (age 30), hitting left-handed.
a(32) = 262 because Ichiro Suzuki (Born October 22, 1973 in Kasugai, Japan) (at age 30) batted (left-handed) 262 hits in 2004.
